C section Wound Care

🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑

🔴 It is usually alright to shower as early as you are able to after your cesarean section, once you're able to walk by yourself without feeling dizzy.

🔴 You can take a good shower with mild soap and clean water , and that's not a problem. You don't need to go weeks without taking a shower.

🔴 If you have a would dressing, its usually take a shower without wetting it.

🔴 Your shower once the dressing is removed requires a towel to pat your cut and make sure its dry.

🔴 Your wound will not fall apart just because you removed your dressing and took a shower.

🔴 Its very important to keep your cut clean and dry after each shower session.

🔴 You don't need to scrub your cut with a sponge to keep it clean. Be as gentle as possible.

🔴 Keeping your wound clean and dry are two important things that help with healing.

🔴 After a cesarean section, wear loose fitting dresses or clothes that allow enough fresh air to get to your wound. No trousers or underwear that are the same level as your scar.

🔴 Based on experience, these cuts, unlike other surgical cuts, don't need dressing everyday to heal well. They heal very well when kept clean and dry and hardly ever fall apart.

🔴 You don't need to take antibiotics after a cesarean section to help your wound heal unless of course you have an ongoing infection that needs to be treated or cesarean section was not done under clean conditions. Don't buy these drugs yourself because you think you need them.

🔴 Feel free to take good shower after surgery. Many obgyn will tell you its ok to do so.

🔴 If you notice strange fluids coming out of your wound, your stitches falling apart , your wound reddened or anything wrong with your stitch have it looked at as some can get infected very badly.

❗ Do not go swimming, soak in a hot tub or bathtub for at least 3 weeks post surgery after which time its usually ok or until your obgyn tells you its OK.

❗If glue was used to put your cut together or strips were used, don't try to wash it off. Take a shower and pat it dry with a towel.

💥 Based on how your scar was put together , you might be asked to come for stitches or staples to be removed or not.

💥 Don't miss your 6 week postpartum check

Ps: Recommended care of cesarean section wounds differ from obgyn to obgyn .
