Induced labour vrs natural labour
🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑
🛑 How intense contractions are during natural labour and induced labour are very different.
🛑 When labour starts on it's own , oxytocin ( hormone that causes contractions) produced by the body stimulates the womb to contract and dilate the cervix.
🛑 As the cervix dilates , the body senses this pain and sends messages to the brain to help your body deal with this pain. The brain responds by releasing endorphins ( help reduce the feeling of pain)
🛑 These endorphins are very powerful and help your body sense labour pain as bearable.
🛑 The more oxytocin released by your body, the more the endorphins released so you're able to handle labour pains .
🛑 When labour is induced, the artificial oxytocin used to stimulate contractions does not get to the brain.
🛑 Your body doesn’t receive signals to release the endorphins and you experience more intense pain.
🛑 Natural labour usually begins slowly. It usually starts with spaced out contractions that are short and not too strong .
🛑 With time, these contractions get closer together, longer, and more intense.
🛑 When labour is induced , the pain begins immediately. Your brain isn't able to protect you from the pain as it would when labour starts naturally.
🛑 Did you find induction of labour extremely painful? Well you're right. Its extremely painful but sometimes very important when pregnancy has to be ended because you or your baby isn't doing well.
🛑 Induced labour doesn't always end in delivery. Sometimes your doctor might have to use forceps or vacuum extraction to get your baby out ( photos below) . Other times you would have to have a cesarean section.
🛑 If you have had an induction before, it doesn't mean you will be induced during your
next pregnancy.
